Why choose salary sacrifice
Six reasons clubs and staff choose it
Financial savings — save an estimated 30–60% against the cost of a personally leased premium electric vehicle.
Everything included — insurance, maintenance, breakdown assistance, road tax and more, in one deduction.
No cost to the employer — free sign-up, with administration handled by our scheme partners.
Flexible terms — short-term and flexible vehicle contracts, not just long fixed leases.
Supports Net Zero goals — a straightforward way for a club to encourage EV adoption among staff.
Hassle-free — administrative management handled for you from application to delivery.
Because your monthly amount is taken from your gross salary before tax and National Insurance are calculated, the saving is generally more significant the higher your tax band — though it’s worth noting a reduced gross salary on paper can affect mortgage or credit applications, so it’s worth flagging to any lender.
Manufacturers on the scheme
Audi · BMW · Cupra · Kia · Mercedes-Benz · MINI · Nissan · Polestar · Porsche · Tesla · Volkswagen — plus other electric and plug-in hybrid brands as availability allows.
Typically employees aged 21–75, UK residents, who have been with their employer for at least 6 months. Your employer confirms final eligibility as scheme rules can vary slightly by organisation.
How much can I save?
Because your sacrifice comes out of your gross (pre-tax) salary, you save on Income Tax and National Insurance — savings of 30–60% against the cost of a personally leased electric vehicle are common, particularly for higher-rate taxpayers.
Does it cost the club or employer anything to set up?
No — sign-up is free for employers. Cocoon Vehicles and our scheme partners manage the administration.
Will this affect my mortgage or credit applications?
It can. Because your payslip shows a reduced gross salary, some lenders may calculate affordability differently. It’s worth mentioning your salary sacrifice arrangement to any lender you apply to.
Can part-time staff join the scheme?
In most cases yes, provided the sacrifice still leaves you earning above the National Minimum Wage after the deduction — this is a legal requirement, not a Cocoon Vehicles policy.
Can I use the car personally, or only for work?
Salary sacrifice vehicles are typically available for full personal use, not just business mileage — check your specific scheme terms for confirmation.
Are hybrid (non plug-in) cars included?
No — the scheme covers fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles only, in line with the tax efficiency rules that make salary sacrifice worthwhile.
Is this exclusive to one employer, or can any club join?
Any football club or business can set up a salary sacrifice scheme for its staff — there’s no exclusivity requirement.
